On January 9 at approximately 4:30 p.m., Maricopa County Sheriff’s deputies (MCSO) were dispatched to a call from Carefree Fire Station 821 in reference to a suspicious device, an MCSO spokesman said.
Earlier in the day, an elderly couple went to the fire station and turned in what appeared to be an old stick of dynamite. Fire personnel requested MCSO to respond. Deputies initially responded and then requested the Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) squad to respond. MCSO EOD responded, took possession and safely disposed of the device, the official said.
