PHOENIX – If you have been waiting to clear your library overdue fines, now’s your chance! The Maricopa County Library District’s (MCLD) annual Food for Fines program started July 6 and runs through Sunday, July 15.
The program allows library customers to bring in non-perishable food items to any MCLD library. One non-perishable food item is equivalent to $2 in waived fines for up to $50 per account. MCLD waived $36,000 in fines in last year’s program.
If you don’t have any outstanding fines and still want to participate, residents can bring in food donations that will go towards waiving overdue fines on a child’s account.
All food donations will be sent to local food pantries going directly into library member’s communities.
Food items participants should donate:
- Peanut butter
- Mac and cheese
- Canned Tuna fish
- Canned vegetables
- Check with your local food pantry for specific non-perishable needs.
Food for Fines is only available at valid Maricopa County Library District locations for more information visit mcldaz.org.
