BCC Library keeps on rocking through July

BLACK CANYON CITY – The library’s “Libraries Rock” Summer Reading Program ends this month, but there’s still one event to go before the final party. Science guy Mark Carter will be at the library this coming Saturday, July 7, at noon to have fun with the “Science of Sound!”. Learn how music works and have a rockin’ good time too!

The following Saturday, July 14, is when all Summer Reading participants come together at noon for pizza, ice cream, and prizes! Reading logs are due before then, so if your child hasn’t started or signed up yet, now is the time. The Adult Reading Program raffle will also be held that day, so if you have submitted a book recommendation, make sure to go and see what you’ve won.

But the Summer Reading Program events aren’t the only things happening at the library this month. On Tuesday July 11, at 2 p.m. “Tech Time” with Scott Quillen returns with a class on using your smartphones. If you’d like to learn how to use your phone better (or at all!), you won’t want to miss it. Please register at the library if interested.

“Game Time” will also return on Friday July 20, 2:30 – 4:30 p.m., giving teens and tweens an opportunity to beat the heat with board games and Wii madness! The next day, Saturday June 21, at 1 p.m. “Slime Time” bubbles to the surface again, with more homemade slime science fun!

“Movie Chat” follows on June 26 at 4 p.m. with “The Way Back,” a fictionalized version of a Polish officer and his companions fleeing a Siberian Gulag, and the struggle to reach asylum in India. Stay after the film to honor POWs and those who have struggled against oppression and discuss what freedom means to you. Coffee, popcorn and soda will be provided.

Then, on Saturday, June 28, 12-3 p.m. the library embarks on a new adventure with “Escape Room!” Find your way out of the room by using your best sleuthing instincts to find the clues! Can you escape before time runs out? More importantly, can you beat your friends and win the finest prize of all: bragging rights?

Add onto this “Beginners Yoga” four times a week, “Beautiful Creative Crafts” the third Saturday of the month, “Storytime” every Tuesday morning, and all the other regular programs for a summer full of great activities for everyone!
