Help preserve open space in New River by supporting local dog sanctuary

NEW RIVER – Rusty’s Angels Senior Dog Sanctuary is attempting to secure five-acres of state trust land adjacent to its current property in New River to expand their operations, while also preserving open space in the area.

Rusty’s Angels, which rescues senior dogs providing them with healthcare and a loving home until the end of their lives, has the land under contract for $215,000 with the help of a private investor who is willing to loan (with interest) up to $165,000. The organization is attempting to reduce the burden of its debt by raising as much money as possible over the next 30 days to hopefully cover the entire cost of the land.

“We are trying to raise as much in capital campaign as we possibly can so that we don’t have to borrow as much from our private investor,” Emilee Spear said, the founder and director of Rusty’s Angels.

Currently the organization has raised nearly $108,000 and needs $107,000 to reach their goal of raising enough money to cover the entire price of the parcel located off Fig Springs Road and 7th Avenue.  Rusty’s Angels want the land not only for sustainable growth, but also to ensure that the land stays peaceful for its senior dog residents.

“The great thing is we are under contract so no one can buy the land out from under us, now we just need to raise the funds,” Spear said. “Donate today for our future tomorrow!”

Spear says that the situation is a win-win for residents and the rescue. By Rusty’s Angels purchasing the land it will prevent a developer from buying it and building multiple houses, which is happening all over the New River and Desert Hills areas. It also allows the organization to rescue more senior dogs in the future.

The sanctuary will close escrow on July 30 if all goes as planned, and Rusty’s Angels will continue fundraising until they raise their remaining goal amount of $107,000.
