Business Spotlight: Maian Pediatrics

Maian Pediatrics opened in Cave Creek in September, and the practice is welcoming new patients. Thomas Erskine, MD, FAAP has been a board-certified pediatrician since 2003, and pediatric critical board certified since 2008. Erskine has served in multiple capacities, including working in pediatric critical care and emergency medicine.

“My love for pediatric medicine also led me to take care of the sickest children, that is why I decide to enter into the practice of pediatric critical care too,” Erskine said in an email interview.

Erskine emphasizes that spending quality time, educating, communicating, and listening to parents and patients helps nurtures healthy and happy families. Appointments allow plenty of time for parents and patients to ask questions and feel confident in their care.

“I believe that the more educated a patient and family is the more comfortable they are,” Erskine said. “They are able to participate and anticipate better which can alleviate a great amount of stress. I have made great efforts to have a system that is efficient and that allows me to spend more time with patients. I am also a parent so I know how important is to have a trusting relationship with your pediatrician.”

Erskine has extensive medical experience, including being on the forefront of research in his career. He served in the United States Marine Corps and obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree from Arizona State University in 1993, then attended Ross University School of Medicine, graduating in 1999. After interning in family practice, Erskine spent three years as a resident at Texas A& M University’s Scott & White Memorial Hospital. He then completed three more years of fellowship at the University of Miami’s Jackson Memorial Hospital in their Pediatric Critical Care Fellowship Program.

In addition to working in multiple Pediatric Critical Care Units, Erskine has served as part of the Medical Hands for Healing Mission in Rivas, Nicaragua. Erskine practices at Banner Thunderbird Medical Center, as well as at Maricopa Integrated Health Systems in the PICU and pediatric burn unit and is the Pediatric ER physician for North Valley Emergency Specialists.
