ANTHEM – Roger Amaya and Maria Estrada, owners of the famous Tortas Chano Mexican Restaurant in Anthem were able to place smiles on the students faces for final exam week.
Not only did they provide a t-shirt for each student, they switched things up a little. Instead of turning the classroom into a restaurant, the 7th and 8th grade students in Mrs. Jenkins’ Spanish class at Sunset Ridge School were invited to come to the restaurant to order their food in Spanish.
Each student had to greet the cashier using their Spanish name and then place an order answering any questions that Roger or his son, Brandon Amaya, could throw at them.
Three students were delighted when they were chosen to head to the back with Maria Estrada and learn how she works her magic in the kitchen.
Maria showed them how to keep things sterile when food prepping and then how to cook some of the recipes used on the menu.
Roger and Maria covered the cost of the entire group and it did not disappoint!
As a bus load of delighted students headed back to school, one teacher was left with the realization that Roger and Maria are giving something invaluable back to their community.
Tortas Chano is a family owned and operated business that thrives because of HEART!
