PEORIA – The Holiday Lantern event that was scheduled on December 1, at Lake Pleasant’ s Harbor Marina has been cancelled due to a lack of lantern sales and interest in the event, according to its organizers.
“Numbers for the Christmas Lanterns event were not materializing, so the event was cancelled and operators will focus on a single lantern event in the spring,” John Williams, an organizer of the event stated in an email to The Foothills Focus.
This event was going to be the first time in the greater Phoenix area that a lantern festival would have occurred during the holiday season before it was announced that it was cancelled this week.
Refunds are currently being processed for anyone who had already purchased a lantern for the event online, which were $30 each. Tickets ordered online will be refunded to the same credit card used for the purchase.
Lanterns will return to Lake Pleasant this spring.
The initial lantern event held last April drew more than 10,000 attendees, but the event that was scheduled this December was not attracting as many patrons.
