ANTHEM – The 14th annual Daisy Mountain Veterans Parade is a free family-friendly event happening on the morning of November 3, featuring floats, a flyover and Star Wars characters. Immediately following the parade is the fifth annual Charity Picnic and fundraiser featuring a cornhole tournament, hot air balloon rides, live music, food and drinks.
The parade route is hosted by Daisy Mountain Veterans and begins at Gavilan Peak Parkway and Memorial Drive starting at 10 a.m. and ends at the Anthem Community Center. The parade will include special guests from a local costume club dressed as Star Wars characters and a Mardi Gras style candy toss.
This year’s parade will honor those who served in Somalia and the 25th anniversary of Mogadishu. There will also be a flyover and the community can share photos using the hashtag #DaisyMountainVeteransParade.
The Community Picnic will start immediately following the parade at the Anthem Community Park at 11 a.m. and is hosted by the Anthem Young Professionals. There will be a photobooth and plenty of opportunities to snap selfies with your favorite Star Wars characters at the picnic.
The charity cornhole tournament will begin at 11:30 a.m. at softball fields three and four with free Barros pizza for players, and it will benefit the local Youth for Troops group. Registration is required and can be done online at AYPAZ.com/events.
There will be food trucks and a beer garden available and it is recommended that attendees bring cash, but an ATM will be on site. A bounce house, tethered hot air balloon rides and video game trailer will also be available for purchase at the picnic.
