Anthem businesses awarded at annual ceremony


ANTHEM – The Anthem Community Council recognized multiple Anthem businesses at the Anthem Area Chamber of Commerce Winter Gala on Dec. 3, and the Anthem Area Chamber of Commerce awarded Justin Simons of State Farm Insurance as the 2016 Business Person of the Year.

Each year, local businesses are nominated for a variety of different awards. Nominations are peer-based, and the ACC Economic Development Committee and members of the ACC Board of Directors choose winners. 

Desert Lotus Boutique & Gifts received the Excellence in Community Service award. Caurus Academy received the Commercial Property Improvements award. New this year, the ACC's Economic Development Committee introduced an Excellence in Economic Development Award, presented to Legacy at Anthem Medical, project owners Dr. Wyatt Wood and Dr. Gregory Sheppard.

The Anthem Young Professionals’ Leadership in Action Award was presented to Tyler and Travis Ringe, ProSkill Plumbing, Heating and Air. Carrie Clark-Keller, V.I.P. Mortgage, Inc., was the recipient of the Chamber’s first Top Gun Award.

Other nominees this year were Post Net and Q-to-U Barbecue for Excellence in Community Service; and Desert Lotus Boutique & Gifts, GelCo Products, Tennessee Grill, and Creative Castle Preschool and Kindergarten for Commercial Property Improvements.

Business Person of the Year Award nominees included Justin Simons, State Farm; Jamie Cottrell, Edward Jones; Sandra Long, Computer Troubleshooters – North Phoenix; Frankie Ruiz, Azteca Home Services; Ruth Longo, Anthem Trophies/J&R Branding Solutions; and Chris Prickett, Prickett Realty.

Simons, who was chosen as Business Person of the Year, moved to Anthem and opened a State Farm Agency in 2001. Since that time, he has been recognized three times as State Farm Agent of the Year in North Phoenix, Silver Scroll Agent, President’s Club winner, Chairman’s Circle qualifier and was the recipient of the Anthem Community Council’s first Excellent in Community Service Award. Simons volunteers in several different roles at Boulder Creek High School, serves as Chair of the Anthem Council Economic Development Committee, sponsors both We Care and the Rotary Club, is a Board Member and Founder of the Preferred Businesses at Anthem, and is an Anthem Area Chamber of Commerce founding member.
