Upscale Singers award 13 students with scholarships

CAREFREE – In their 9th annual Scholarship Auditions, the Upscale Singers awarded 13 students from junior to senior high school scholarships that ranged from $100 to $500.

The scholarships are paid directly to the vocal teacher chosen by each scholar. The new Upscale Scholars represent seven different schools from North Valley school districts; they work with as many as seven different vocal music teachers in the area.

The first place winners from the junior and senior high divisions are Ally Lane, a junior at Boulder Creek, and Halle Ata-Abadi, a freshman at Cactus Shadows. Both winners will sing solos in the upcoming Upscale Singers annual Christmas concerts on Dec. 11 and 13 at the Desert Hills Presbyterian Church.

The Upscale Singers, under the direction of Margaret Watson, are proud of their commitment to the youth of the community. Watson observed, “The more students that study privately, the better the school choirs and musical productions. So the scholarships really help the schools as well as the individual students.”
