Two pedestrians injured in accident in Cave Creek
CAVE CREEK – Two pedestrians sustained serious injuries after being struck by a van in an accident in Cave Creek in the early hours of the morning of Nov. 24.
Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Sergeant Nick Schrey, who was off-duty at the time, and his wife Elizabeth Schrey, principal of Echo Mountain Intermediate School, were crossing Cave Creek Rd. near Harold’s Cave Creek Corral at the time of the accident. According to a GoFundMe page for the family, they were heading out after dinner at the time.
According to accident reports, the driver of the van stayed at the scene, and investigators don’t believe impairment was a factor in the collision. This stretch of Cave Creek Rd., where a crosswalk is located, is frequently travelled and very dark, which may have contributed to the accident. The investigation into the accident is continuing.
MCSO has shared the GoFundMe page set up for the family. Nearly $40,000 towards the $50,000 goal has already been collected. According to the fund page, the proceeds will go towards hospital bills, rehabilitation, lost wages, and caring for the Schrey’s children; any remaining funds will go towards getting the street well-lit.
