Upscale Singers award 15 scholarships to local kids

CAREFREE – Community musical group Upscale Singers have announced the results from the eighth annual Vocal Scholarship Auditions.

Mason Reeves, a junior at Pinnacle High School and frequent performer with the Desert Foothills Theater, took first place in the Senior High Division, winning a $500 scholarship. Sophia Humbert, a 7th grader at Gavilan Peak, won the Junior High Division and a $400 vocal scholarship. Both winners will be featured as soloists in the Upscale Singers’ annual Christmas concert ‘Songs of the Season.’ The ‘Songs of the Season’ concert is on Dec. 14, 5 p.m., at the Desert Hills Presbyterian Church, located at Carefree Highway and Tom Darlington Drive in Carefree.  

In addition to the winners, seven other students placed in the auditions, and six Honorable Mentions were named.  A total of $3,200 will be distributed to these young people.
