MCSO honors fallen deputy through Deputy Bill Coleman Memorial Run
ANTHEM – The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office hosted the first annual Deputy Bill Coleman Memorial Run on Nov. 19.
MCSO Academy Class #137 led the 4.2 mile run, starting at the Anthem Community Center and continuing up Gavilan Peak Parkway to the area where Deputy Coleman lost his life. The run included a stop at the Coleman Field, named in honor of Deputy Coleman, in the Anthem Community Park. Multiple first responders were on-site to share in the tribute.
Deputy Coleman was a 20-year MCSO veteran. He was killed in action in Anthem in January 2012. This run is one of several tributes to his service.
MCSO helicopter 977 was flown over the Memorial Run area. This helicopter’s number is in honor of Deputy Coleman, whose serial number was 977.
The Nov. 19 run was the first of a new tradition. In future, the Deputy Bill Coleman Memorial Run will be led by every deputy academy class. All MCSO personnel can participate.
