Third annual Coleman Memorial Run held in honor of Deputy Coleman
ANTHEM – Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office Deputy William Coleman lost his life in the line of duty on Jan. 8, 2012. Now, his memory is honored with a memorial run in Anthem with MCSO training recruits.
The third annual memorial run was held on Nov. 8, with MCSO Class #139 completing a run and a drill of 977 repetitions. The run began at the Coleman Memorial Field at the Anthem Community Park and ended at the site of Coleman’s End of Watch.
Local residents turned out to show support for the runners, and multiple police officers attended. MCSO helicopter number 977, numbered in honor of Coleman’s serial number, hovered over Anthem during the run.
Coleman, who was a north valley resident, was shot and killed in the line of duty, while responding to a burglary call in Anthem. He had served 20 years with MCSO and was highly respected throughout the community and by those with whom he served.
The Coleman Memorial Run is held biannually, offering the community the opportunity to honor a highly respected police officer and to show support to new officers-in-training.
