Annual Verde River Day to be held Sept. 26
COTTONWOOD – Looking for something to do this weekend? Head out to the Verde River at Dead Horse Ranch State Park for the 27th Annual Verde River Day.
The park, along with the Cottonwood Chamber of Commerce, and sponsoring nonprofits and corporations from around the state, will host and celebrate the annual Verde River Day on Saturday, Sept. 26, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. In honor of the occasion, Arizona State Parks will waive the entrance admission to Dead Horse Ranch State Park on Sept. 26.
Activities during the event include organized canoe and kayak rides, sand castle building, a climbing wall, and over 40 nature-based exhibits with educational information about the Verde River’s riparian habitat and wildlife. Live music will be provided all day. Food will be provided by local charities, who will raise money for their causes by selling hamburgers, pizza, snow-cones, nachos, frybread, and a pancake breakfast.
Guests of all ages will be welcome to fish in the park lagoons, as well as take advantage of the scheduled Arizona Game & Fish Department’s fishing clinic. Fishing licenses are not required during clinic hours. Poles, bait, and tackle are provided for all age groups.
Dead Horse Ranch State Park is located adjacent to and across from Verde River near the community of Cottonwood. For more information or to keep up with current news about the 2015 Verde River Day event, go online to www.verderiverday.com.
