Holiday traffic impacted by multiple crashes over long weekend

NORTH VALLEY – For many Valley residents who traveled north this past Labor Day weekend, the long weekend included long traffic delays on the I-17. Multiple crashes happened over the weekend, including an accident on Sunday morning that caused serious injuries, necessitating a helicopter evac.

Traffic on northbound and southbound I-17 was heavy and at times completely stopped several times throughout the long weekend. The Arizona Department of Transportation issued frequent Twitter updates, warning travelers of heavy traffic and advising of road closures and delays.

ADOT said last week that speed limits in certain areas of the I-17 would be lowered over the weekend, as part of an effort to reduce crashes and delays resulting from speeding and driver inattention. Speed limit reduction has been implemented during recent past long weekends, as well.

Any time you’re planning on heading out of town, it’s always helpful to check for real-time traffic conditions.
