After the Homestretch AZ awarded funding
Staff Report~ 9/3/2014
DESERT HILLS – The horse rescue After the Homestretch AZ has been chosen as the Thoroughbred Charities of America charity of the month.
Thoroughbred Charities of America is the premier funding source for grants to thoroughbred rescues in the United States and is the charitable arm of the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association. TCA is a charitable organization whose mission is to provide grants to non-profit organizations that work toward improving the lives of Thoroughbred racehorses and the people who work with them.
After the Homestretch AZ takes in homeless horses and ex-racehorses. Since their July 2011 inception, After the Homestretch AZ has rescued 37 horses, 35 ex-racehorses, and two colts. Some of these horses were found wandering the desert; others came directly from the track when they could no longer race. ATHA provides ex-racehorses the opportunity to rest, have their veterinary needs addressed, and general rehabilitation to ready them for a non-racing adoptive home.
This horse rescue is a nonprofit organization, run exclusively by volunteers. The funding from Thoroughbred Charities of America will help provide food, shelter, and veterinary care for ATHA’s rescued horses.
