Opportunity Way Park on track to open in September
ANTHEM – Construction on the long-awaited Opportunity Way Park on the west side of Anthem is nearing completion, and the park is on schedule to open next month. An exact opening date has not yet been set.
Kristi Northcutt, Anthem Community Council Director, Communications & Public Affairs, said via email that work on the park is going well and is on schedule. Fortunately, so far, no major delays have been caused by weather.
Sod installation at the park is now complete, and the turf is taking root. In a June update on the park, Council representatives described the turf process as “a practice of patience for all as we allow the turf to fully establish prior to the opening of the park and its enticing features.”
“This is the critical growth period for the turf and we want to ensure the grass is healthy and strong before we open and start sports play,” Northcutt noted.
This park, located north of Opportunity Way and west of 46th Ln., will include plenty of sports options and lots of playground space. Two multi-use sports fields, a basketball half-court, soccer goals, and a portable baseball backstop will be available at the park. The park will also include playground areas with shade sails, benches, walking paths, two ramadas, grills, a picnic area with tables, and open space areas. A restroom building and on-site parking will be available, as well.
The Opportunity Way Park is funded from the Enhancement Fund, and this park project was prioritized in the Facilities Master Plan. The park will offer a close-to-home place to play for Anthem west-side families and offer fun new options for families throughout Anthem.
