Underground storage facility accident takes life of North Valley vet

PHOENIX – One man died and two others were injured due to an accident in an underground storage facility in north Phoenix on Monday evening. Dr. William Tryon, a north valley equine veterinarian, died, and the other two men remain in critical condition. The accident happened on 3rd Ave., north of Carefree Hwy.

First responders from Phoenix Fire, Daisy Mountain Fire, and Peoria Fire Departments worked together to free the three men trapped 20 feet underground in a grain silo. One of the men fell while trying to pump rainwater out of the silo, and the other two went down in the silo to try to rescue him. The lack of oxygen in the space caused them to become unconscious, trapping them underground. Rescuers extricated the men and airlifted them to a local hospital.

The community grieves the loss of Dr. Tryon, who is remembered as being a kind, caring vet and a great community member.
