Teens injured in boat fire at Lake Pleasant

PEORIA – Two teenage girls were injured in a boat fire at Lake Pleasant on Sunday morning.

Maricopa County Sheriff’s Department Public Information Officer Courtney Palma said via email that the incident happened before 9 a.m. on Sunday. Just after the boat was launched, there was what appeared to be an explosion in the engine compartment.

“On board were four people and two dogs,” Palma noted. “Of the four passengers on board, two girls ages 13 and 14 received non-life-threatening injuries from the explosion. Both children were taken to MMC for their injuries.”

The Peoria Fire Department said via Twitter on Sunday morning that crews were responding to a boat fire at Lake Pleasant and that two people with burn injuries were transported in stable condition.

What caused the explosion and fire is not yet known. Palma said that Sheriff’s detectives are currently investigating the incident.
