Ten-year-old Anthem Dolphins swimmer wins 100-meter butterfly competition
ANTHEM – The Anthem Dolphins continue to dominate in the swimming world. At the State Championship meet weekend in Tucson last month, 10-year-old Dolphins swimmer Emma Sayers won the 100-meter butterfly competition in the 10 and under age group. In addition to her 100-meter butterfly win, Emma came in second in the 400-free and fourth in the 50-fly and 200 individual medley.
Emma has been swimming with the Anthem Dolphins for two years. Emma, Caitlyn Newell, and Abigail Lee will be representing Arizona Swimming at the Western Zone meet in Salt Lake City on Aug. 11-13.
Anthem Dolphins head coach Scott Newell noted what an achievement this is for the team.
“It's an outstanding accomplishment for our swimmers to be recognized for their abilities state-wide,” Newell said.
The Anthem Dolphins started over 16 years ago and has grown to a team of over 100 competitive swimmers. The team ranges in age from kindergarteners to high schoolers. Multiple Dolphins swimmers have achieved All-American high school rankings, and many Dolphins swimmers have achieved national, regional, and state rankings.
