Diamond Canyon choir awarded first place in national singing event
ANTHEM – Diamond Canyon School is known for its excellent choir, and this talented group of kids has received first place and a Gold rating from three nationally ranked choir judges at the WorldStrides Onstage national singing event in Anaheim.
Diamond Canyon choir teacher Caroline Kaupa said the 7th and 8th grade choir received the first place award and Gold rating at a May 14 ceremony.
“Our choir was competing in the Concert Choir category,” Kaupa explained. “We are so very proud of our choir’s ranking and rating on this national choral stage.”
Diamond Canyon’s choir has been Gold rated for four years in a row and also won first place and Most Outstanding Choir Trophy in 2013. This year, the choir took home an additional award.
“The accomplishment was highlighted by also winning the Spirit of Anaheim Award,” Kaupa said in an email interview. “The Spirit of Anaheim Award is only presented to one performing group throughout the two day event that includes high school and middle school choirs, orchestras, and bands. This award is given to one group that the organizers of the festival feel exemplifies what a performing group should be. We took a small group this year, 24 singers, and were certainly humbled and elated to be chosen for this special recognition.”
