Golf tournament fundraiser for O’Connor football

Staff Report~ 7/9/2014

PHOENIX – A new season brings new anticipations, including the second annual golf tournament hosted by the Sandra Day O’Connor High School football booster club that is right around the corner.

On July 27, the games will commence at the 500 Club Golf Course on 4707 W Pinnacle Peak Road from 6:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in order to raise money for the SDOHS football team. This money will go towards tournament fees, training equipment, and any other needs the team will have throughout the upcoming season.

The booster club also raises money through sponsorships, their team shop, and the snack stand during the season. The golf tournament, however, is a different fundraiser because it gets many people involved so the team makes money and the fans have fun.

Last year, the tournament went smoothly, but the booster club has higher hopes and greater expectations for this year.

“My hope for this year’s event would be that we have a fantastic turnout and that everyone who participates has a great time and continues to talk about it until the next year’s tourney,” said Charles Mahan, organizer of the event.

In order to register for this tournament, go to the team’s Web site at and sign up before July 20. The fee is minimum $100, but opportunities to become a sponsor are available for a greater cost.

The golf tournament fundraiser will be an exciting hopeful start for a new football season.
