Camp Verde holding annual Cornfest July 15-16

7/7/16

CAMP VERDE – The annual Cornfest in Camp Verde is happening Friday, July 15 and Saturday, July 16. Get out of town for a day or two and enjoy some “corny” activities in the beautiful setting of Camp Verde. Camp Verde has been celebrating the annual Cornfest with corn grown on the banks of the Verde River and purchased from Hauser & Hauser Farms since August 1994.

The Cornfest runs 3-10 p.m. on July 15 and 9 a.m.-10 p.m. on July 16 and will be located at 75 Hollamon on the Soccer Field in downtown Camp Verde. Planned Cornfest activities include hot air balloon rides on Saturday, (weather permitting), vendors of all kinds, live music, and plenty of games and contests for kids of all ages, including water balloon volleyball, as well as the 2nd Annual Corn Hole Competition (singles and doubles) with cash prizes for the winners on both Friday and Saturday evenings. A Craft Fair will be held on both Friday and Saturday, inside the gymnasium.

Cornfest will include lots of fire roasted, hot buttered (if you so choose) sweet corn to eat and bags of corn to take home to stock up the freezer. (Bring the coupon in the Cornfest ad on pg. 8 in the July 6 Foothills Focus  to the Cornfest with you and receive a free ear of hot, buttered, fresh-roasted corn!) A beer garden will also be on-site. A Farmer’s Market is planned for Saturday morning, 8 a.m.-12 p.m.; Farmers Market products for sale have been grown and produced in Camp Verde.

Camp Verde’s Historical Museum will be open both Friday and Saturday, and the 1933 Rock Jail will be open on Saturday, as well. The Verde Valley Archaeology Center located at 385 S. Main Street will be open from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. both days. On Saturday, Fort Verde State Historic Park, an authentic original 1870s military fort, will conduct an adobe brick making demonstration at 10 a.m. and a Vintage Baseball game at noon, along with Living History presentations throughout the day; stop by the Camp Verde Promotions booth on the soccer field to pick up a coupon that allows for $1 off admission (up to 4 people per coupon) to Fort Verde State Historic Park.

Shuttle service will be available on Saturday, 12-8 p.m., from the Bashas’ parking lot on Finnie Flat Road. No pets are allowed at the Cornfest. All events are subject to change, especially depending on weather.
