Retiring New River teachers represent 20 years of excellence in education

NEW RIVER – Longtime New River Elementary teachers Bev Thomas and Marilyn Yavello have now retired. The end of the 2014-15 school year marked the completion of their teaching careers.

Thomas most recently taught fourth grade at New River Elementary. Through her nearly two decades of teaching, Thomas instructed hundreds of local students. She helped manage Student Council for many years and volunteered in multiple capacities throughout the school.

Yavello has retired after 40 years total of teaching, 20 years with the DVUSD. Most recently a second grade teacher at New River, Yavello has worked in many capacities as an educator, including in SAGE programs, and has volunteered her time in many projects. She volunteered as school photographer for many years and assembled and distributed school yearbooks.

Both Yavello and Thomas will be greatly missed! Best wishes for retirement!
