Gavilan Peak School celebrates A+ School of Excellence award
ANTHEM – Gavilan Peak School celebrated their A+ School of Excellence award in a school-wide ceremony on May 17. The A+ School of Excellence designation honors the school’s commitment to quality education and continued community involvement. All of the Anthem Deer Valley Unified School District K-8 schools have now received this award.
Multiple district staff members and local school staff attended the Gavilan Peak ceremony, showing their support for the award-winning school. DVUSD Superintendent Dr. James Veitenheimer, and DVUSD staff members Jean Koeppen, Dr. Gail Galligan, Cherryl Paul, and Monica Allread attended, as well as Governing Board members Ann O’Brien and Ann Ordway. Administrators from surrounding schools also came to celebrate with Gavilan Peak, including Tara LeCount and Dr. Amy Trout from Diamond Canyon, Tricia Graham from Canyon Springs, and Deb Roets from Anthem School.
“The amount of support and collegiality was so wonderful to see!” said Aimee Fleming, Gavilan Peak assistant principal.
“As our celebration started, we had Ms. Bobbie O’Boyle (from the Arizona Educational Foundation) read some kind words that the A+ judges shared about Gavilan Peak,” Fleming said. “She then presented Mr. Segersten and me with the A+ banner as our students and teachers cheered! It was such a proud moment for all.”
One student from each grade level spoke at the ceremony, sharing why they believe Gavilan Peak is an A+ school.
“The students had such warm stories to share and such school spirit – it had all the crowd in awe, Fleming described. “It was such a wonderful and heartfelt celebration! We loved ending the year on such a high note!”
