Teenager injured during bull riding at Cave Creek restaurant

4/12/17

CAVE CREEK – A teenager participating in bull riding on Saturday at Outlaw Annie’s in Cave Creek was seriously injured after being bucked off and trampled.

Rural Metro Fire Department and Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office responded to the emergency call. MCSO Sergeant Joaquin Enriquez noted that the initial assessment of the 18-year-old man indicated life-threatening injuries; the assessment of his condition later went from life-threatening injuries to non-life threatening injuries, according to emergency crews.

“It’s our understanding he was thrown off of a bull and kicked in the head area,” Enriquez said via email. “Fire personnel arrived on scene and transported the victim but then advised he was alert and answering questions.”

Shawn Gilleland, Rural Metro Fire Department PIO, noted via email that the teen was “originally unconscious, however he was alert and conscious when he was airlifted to Scottsdale Osborn Hospital.”

No further information on the teen’s current condition was released.
