Get Your Popcorn: The Phoenix Film Festival returns for 17th annual event
It's time to find your new favorite movie. Arizona's largest film festival, The Phoenix Film Festival, returns to Harkins Scottsdale 101 theaters for its 17th year this upcoming weekend. The Festival, which screens over 175 films over 8 days, is a premier event for the Arizona film community, offering an event for filmmakers to showcase their creations in front of an eager crowd of cinephiles. Executive Director Jason Carney explains, "We want to give local filmmakers a stage to play alongside some of the finest independent films. By having a world class festival we hope we're giving them a target goal of playing a great festival in their own backyard."
Aside from offering the opportunity to watch new independent films from up and coming creatives, the festival also organizes an educational program where young filmmakers can learn the process of making a movie from start to finish, even having the opportunity for their films to play on the big screen at the festival. Add to this opportunities to talk with filmmakers during educational lectures and post-screening Q&A's, parties during the weekend with local live entertainment, and a Kid's Day where an entire morning is dedicated to families with little future filmmakers, and there is definitely something for everyone to enjoy.
And for those who like their movies with more scares or with a sci-fi touch, the Phoenix Film Festival runs concurrently with the International Horror and Sci-Fi Film Festival. Entering its 13th year, IHSFF has a fantastic lineup of competition and showcase films that are sure to have a little bit of something for every horror and sci-fi fascination; from camper slasher to vampire tale, from a parallel universe to found footage reality, IHSFF has the genre fair covered. Festival Director Monte Yazzie explains, "Our festival thrives on bringing horrific, fantastic, and science fiction fueled visions to the screen. It's our goal to provide these inventive and creative filmmakers an opportunity to showcase their creations with us."
If you are a film fan, get yourselves to Harkins Scottsdale 101 from April 6th through the 13th!
