Carefree Kiwanis Splash Park to open April 1
CAREFREE – Get ready for fun in the sun at the Carefree Kiwanis Splash Park! The splash park will open for the season on April 1 and will be open every day of the season from 9 a.m.-7 p.m.
The splash park is located in the Carefree Desert Gardens, and in keeping with the desert theme, the splash pad includes a large blue scorpion sculpted above the play area, which sprays its jets periodically. The Kiwanis Splash Park is free to visit, and, while there, kids can also enjoy a nearby covered playground, complete with a Gila monster slide.
The Carefree Desert Gardens is also home to some of the Valley’s most unique art pieces: the work of master sculptor Ray Villafane. This season, Villafane and his team have created a 30-tons-of-sand sculpture of a tortoise and her babies, which will be on display at the Sanderson Lincoln Pavilion.
Last year, Villafane sculpted a sand sculpture of an elephant and a mouse playing chess, which became world famous, as videos of the 24-ton creation were shared widely through social media. Villafane is also famous for his pumpkin carvings; he created a spooky wonderland in Carefree last October with pumpkin artwork.
The Carefree Kiwanis Splash Park will remain open until October. For more information, see www.VisitCarefree.com.
