Registration now open for Starlight Community Theater’s Camp Rising Star


PHOENIX – The magic of theater will come to life this summer at Starlight Community Theater’s Camp Rising Star. Students will experience the fun as they explore all the fun of theater in these summer camp sessions. 

Students in the Musical Theater Sessions 1 & 3 will receive performance training from experienced professional instructors in acting, singing, and choreography to understanding lighting, sound cues, and blocking movements, both on stage and off as well as working with costume pieces, properties, and set preparation. Students in the ‘Teens’ Drama Session 2 will hone skills in acting, including character development, and teamwork with cast and crew on all production details. 

Camp Rising Star Session 1 runs June 13-25 and will be for ages 7-18. At the end of the camp, two shows will be held, at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. on June 25. Camp Rising Star Session 2 runs July 11-16 and will be for ages 13-18. Performances will be held at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. on July 16. Camp Rising Star Session 3 runs July 18-30 and will be for ages 7-18, with performances to be held at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Aug. 1. All camps will be held at the Starlight theater, located at 1611 W Whispering Wind Dr. #9, in Phoenix, near Happy Valley Rd. and 16th Ave.

Starlight Community Theater president Raquel Jarvill noted the many benefits the Starlight group has seen for kids in the camp sessions.

“We’ve seen individual growth in each camper during the camp, especially in self-esteem and confidence as each person memorizes their lines, lyrics, their music, and their choreography,” Jarvill said. “We’ve seen many friendships develop in the camps and continue in consecutive productions and beyond Starlight Community Theater events. And we have gained growing and loyal support from local community families, organizations, and businesses in our mission to enrich and entertain our community and encourage youth and adult participation by providing growth and educational opportunities through a variety of theatrical experiences, both on and off stage.”

All youth are welcome, from beginners to experienced actors, singers, and/or dancers. Each participant is to be prepared to have fun and work hard individually and as a team in preparation for the show performances. Advance purchase tickets for the performances are available online at

Summer camp registration fees are offered at reduced prices through April 30; prices are $250 per person/$199 SCT member, $199 for second or third camp per person, and $199 for second or more person(s) in family household. After May 1, prices increase to $275 per person/$250 SCT member, $250 for second or third camp per person, and $250 for second or more person(s) in family household.
