Desert Foothills Theater produces Lin-Manuel Miranda's play 'In the Heights'

SCOTTSDALE –  The next production in the 2018 season at Desert Foothills Theater is the high-energy, award-winning, hip-hop musical called “In The Heights,” created by Lin-Manuel Miranda.
This Tony-winner was the first musical from Miranda, the famed creator of “Hamilton.”
“In The Heights” addresses universal themes throughout the story of a community in New York’s Washington Heights neighborhood. From his perch at the corner bodega our narrator, Usnavi, invites the audience to embrace the Latin rhythm. Over the course of the three short days that the play covers, we see members of this vibrant community family tackle life, death, love, dreams, significant financial difficulty, and more. Ultimately though we learn that there is always home, family, and love.
“This play speaks to the very simple human condition of community and how we all need that; this story reminds us of home and what home feels like,” said Ricky Araiza, the artistic director who has joined Desert Foothills Theater to direct this piece.
Though the piece explores and celebrates the Latinx experience, it is ultimately relatable to all.
“Through this Latinx narrative, we can understand, on a variety of levels, that we are always more similar than we are different,” Araiza added.
“In The Heights” will run from March 30 to April 15, at the Cactus Shadows Fine Arts Center Black Box located at 3306 N. 60th Street in Scottsdale. Tickets range from $33.50 to $16, to purchase tickets or to find out more about all Desert Foothills Theater productions, contact the box office at 480-488-1981 or visit www.dftheater.org.
