Teen artists highlighted in Anthem
Staff Report ~ 3/10/2010
Artists from three North Valley high schools will be exhibiting their
work as part of the fourth annual Arts Council of the North Valley
(ACNV) Regional Teen Art Competition from 1 – 5 p.m. March 27 and
March 28 at the Anthem Art Gallery, located at 42212 North 41st Drive
in Anthem.
“Hopes and Dreams: Young Artists Reflect on their World Today” will
feature mixed media, ceramics, oil, acrylic and more. Students will
be recognized at a reception open to everyone from 3-5 p.m. March
28 at the gallery.
As part of the exhibition, ACNV will give awards at 3:30 pm on Sunday
for Best in Show, Award of Excellence and Honorable Mention. The judge
for this year’s competition is Neil Hoffman, president of the Milwaukee
Institute of Art and Design who has offered a scholarship to a student
in years past. The Arizona Art Supply store has donated gift certificates
for the top winners. The public will be invited to select a “people’s
choice” award.
The ACNV is committed to promoting the arts and has established this
competition to encourage young artists to excel and showcase their
work in a professional venue. Invitations are distributed throughout
North Valley high schools and students are nominated by their art
teachers. This year’s participating schools include Boulder Creek
High School, Sandra Day O’Conner High School and Mountain Ridge High
School.
“The ACNV is passionate about providing opportunities for young people
and we encourage the community to support these artists by coming
to the gallery”, said Doug Clark, president ACNV. “It is exciting
to see the work of such talented young people!”
