Winter storm brings heavy rain to north valley

NORTH VALLEY – Heavy rain on Monday caused flooding in some areas of the north valley, and this winter storm also brought snow and ice to northern Arizona.

Cave Creek and Carefree both reported over an inch of rain, according to The Anthem and New River areas each received about two inches of rain from the storm, and Black Canyon City received over two inches of rain, according to reports.

The Flood Control District of Maricopa County issues flood warnings for several areas, warning the community to avoid flooded washes and unbridged road crossings.

Yavapai County Emergency Management sent out an email on Tuesday morning, cautioning Black Canyon City residents of area flooding, including at Black Canyon Creek, Big Bug Creek, and Sycamore Creek. The email noted that Yavapai County Flood Control was monitoring the situation. Residents were urged to seek higher ground immediately if they noticed high water near them.

Yavapai County Emergency Management included this safety information:

  • You can lose control of your vehicle in only a few inches of water.
  • Do not drive around a barricade. Turn around and go another way!
