Black Canyon fire board votes for consolidation with DMFD
NORTH VALLEY – The Black Canyon Fire District fire board voted unanimously at their Feb. 23 meeting to go forward with consolidation with the Daisy Mountain Fire Department.
At the Feb. 27 DMFD fire board meeting, Fire Chief Mark Nichols noted in his report to the board that the Black Canyon fire board “made a resolution unanimously to move forward with the consolidation.”
The DMFD fire board has not yet voted on the matter. They are expected to vote at a special meeting next week. If the DMFD fire board also votes unanimously for consolidation, the next step will be consulting with the Maricopa and Yavapai Counties’ Boards of Supervisors. Public hearings will also be held to further discuss the consolidation plan.
Under consolidation, the Black Canyon Fire Department would become part of the Daisy Mountain Fire Department, continuing to serve the Black Canyon City community. As one department, the firefighters and staff would continue to work closely together and would share a fire board, fire chief, and administrative staff. The Black Canyon department would also become an automatic aid partner, as part of DMFD.
