BCHS administrators retained; disciplinary action taken
ANTHEM – The Deer Valley Unified School District announced on Feb. 10 that Boulder Creek High School Principal Lauren Sheahan and Assistant Principal/Athletic Director Jay Kopas will be receiving disciplinary action and will be returning to their posts later this month.
Per a Feb. 10 DVUSD statement: “District administration has used its discretion to take disciplinary action within the parameters of district policy. The district and Boulder Creek High School staff look forward to working with students, parents, and staff to rebuild relationships and the trust of their school’s stakeholders.”
The administrators were placed on leave after a parody video depicting Sheahan as Kellyanne Conway and Kopas as President Donald Trump made for staff only became public; the video was sent to national media, creating a larger reaction as people around the country responded.
In response to a public records request from The Foothills Focus, DVUSD sent over information that stated both administrators will be put on 10 days of unpaid leave. Both received a strong directive to take steps to rectify the situation with actions such as community meetings, parent meetings, and further communication with parents and students.
