Fine Art & Wine Festival to feature Cave Creek artist

Staff Report~ 2/4/2015

SURPRISE – Art season is in full swing. Savvy patrons will find contemporary and traditional paintings, sculptures, photography, pottery, jewelry, and more at the Surprise Fine Art& Wine Festival, taking place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 6, Saturday, Feb. 7, and Sunday, Feb. 8 at the Surprise Recreation Campus, 15960 N. Bullard Avenue, at Bullard Avenue and Paradise Lane.

Due to popular demand, this will be the festival’s third time returning to Surprise since 2005.

This year’s featured artist is renowned and award-winning oil painter Sharon Brening of Cave Creek. Brening is an oil painter focusing mainly on southwestern Native American tribes. She uses a technique called glazing, which incorporates many thin layers, to achieve her vibrant colors and rich skin tones.

“Painting is my love and my passion,” says Brening. “To be able to make a living at it is a true blessing I am grateful for.”
The festival features live music and an extensive collection of fine wines – both domestic and imported in addition to micro-brew tasting. For $10, patrons receive an engraved souvenir wine glass and six wine tasting tickets – additional tickets are $1 each. The Surprise Sun Dancers will host the wine tasting and will receive 25 percent of gross wine ticket sales.

General admission to the Surprise Fine Art& Wine Festival is $3 for adults. Children 17 and under are free. Parking is free all weekend. For more information, call (480) 837-5637 or visit
