MTA to present Junie B. Jones The Musical, opening Feb. 18

ANTHEM – Barbara Park’s famous first-grade heroine is coming to the stage. Musical Theatre of Anthem will present Junie B. Jones The Musical Feb. 18-28.

Created by Marcy Heisler and Zina Goldrich, the team that brought you Dear Edwina, comes Junie B. Jones The Musical. This show is an adaptation of four of Barbara Park’s best-selling books, bringing to life a comical and not just-for-kids musical. It’s Junie B.'s first day of first grade and a lot of things have changed for her: Junie B.’s friend Lucille doesn't want to be her best pal anymore, and on the bus, Junie B. makes friends with Herb, the new kid at school. Furthermore, Junie B. has trouble reading the blackboard and her teacher Mr. Scary thinks she may need glasses. Throw in a friendly cafeteria lady, a kickball tournament and a "Top-Secret Personal Beeswax Journal", and first grade has never been more exciting! Featuring a humorous and loveable character and fun-filled songs, Junie B. Jones will capture the audience's hearts just as the books have captivated an entire generation of students.

Julia Hughes will play Junie B. Jones in this MTA production. The cast is comprised of award winners and nominees ages 6-13. The award-winning production staff includes director Jackie Hammond, vocal director Karen Blanzy, and choreographer Lyndsie Clymer. Junie B. Jones The Musical is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI).

Performances take place Thursday-Sunday, Feb. 18-21 and 25-28 at Musical Theatre of Anthem, 42323 N. Vision Way, in Anthem. To see show time and purchase tickets, visit
