Anthem Golf & Country Club Director of Tennis wins 2016 USPTA award
ANTHEM – Chris Brewer, Director of Tennis at Anthem Golf & Country Club, has been recognized by the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) as the 2016 “Southwest Professional of the Year”– an award that he previously earned in 2010. He will receive this award at the Southwest Conference Awards Dinner on Saturday, Jan. 28.
The Southwest Professional of the Year Award is a peer-nominated award amongst the Southwest Division. For 2016, Brewer, a USPTA Elite Professional, was a Level 1 Educational Achiever and earned in between 9 and 17 points in the USPTA Career Development Program in 2016.
The USPTA was founded in 1927 and is the global leader in tennis-teacher certification and professional development. With more than 15,000 members worldwide, the association raises the standards of tennis-teaching professionals and coaches, and promotes a greater awareness of the sport. A 17-year member of the USPTA, Brewer previously received Pro of the Year honors in 2010. In addition, he served on the USPTA Southwest Board from 2008-2016 and served as USPTA Elite Professional Committee Chairperson in 2011 and 2012.
Anthem Golf & Country Club, which features nine post-tension hard courts, has grown its programming in recent years to include more than 25 tennis events per year, including Anthem vs. Anthem, Cactus Cup, and Tennis Breakfasts Series.
Brewer has expanded offerings to include Pickleball. Now in its second year, the program boasts over 200 active weekly players and has graduated over 200 players through its lesson program. Over the past year, Anthem members have had the opportunity to participate in drills with top 50 tennis professional Nicholas Monroe and US Open Pickleball Champion Sara Ansboury.
In 2015, Brewer was asked to be the lead professional on Tennis Ventures trip to Wimbledon. The two-week trip included leading all drills and mixer including on-court drills with former #1 player in the world, Lindsay Davenport.
