Northeast Valley bike lane construction underway
CAREFREE – Cave Creek and Carefree residents should expect changes in traffic flow due to construction on the towns’ new nine-mile stretch of bike lanes, starting Jan. 4 until the projects expected completion in June 2016. Construction on the bike lanes has already begun on Cave Creek Road between Carefree Highway and Pima Road, and Arizona Department of Transportation is asking drivers to be cautious of barricades, new signage, and traffic.
The project, which has been ongoing since 2013, is administered by ADOT, and is part of an intergovernmental agreement between Carefree and Cave Creek. Local businesses will remain open during the duration of the construction. The construction is expected to be completed this spring, with the exception of Cave Creek Road, which has scheduled construction until June 2016, according to ADOT.
The first construction impacts for residents will be on Tom Darlington Drive from Leisure Lane to Cave Creek Road, with crews working their way north until sometime in early January, as well as construction on Pima Road from Stagecoach Pass to Cave Creek Road until mid-January.
Next, crews will start on Cave Creek from Spur Cross Ranch to Pima Roads, then, Spur Cross Ranch to Bloody Basin roads with construction expected to finish in early March. Final striping and miscellaneous work will continue until June 2016, according to ADOT.
A project hotline number has been set up for residents to get information or leave comments at 1(855) 712-8530 or via email at email@example.com. Residents can see the construction schedule at www.cavecreek.org/DocumentCenter/View/2573.
